At Compean Dental, we can’t wait to introduce you to our stellar daughter-and-father team! We also would love to introduce you to our newest addition to the team, Dr. Allyson Reel! Dr. Mary Compean, Dr. Carlos Compean and Dr. Allyson Reel are fully dedicated to exceeding patient expectations throughout the dental care process, helping you achieve a smile that’s healthier, more confident, and truly built to last. Dr. Carlos Compean

Get to Know Dr. Carlos Compean 

With an illustrious career in oral healthcare that spans nearly 40 years so far, Dr. Compean definitely knows a thing or two about teeth. He loves meeting new people every day through his work, as well as being able to keep so many mouths healthy over the years. Interested in learning more about him? Just keep reading below.

Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

Dr. Compean truly loves the art of creating beautiful dental results for patients in need, as well as being able to improve smiles across the greater Cerritos community. He can’t imagine doing any other job!

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Compean studied at both Santa Monica College and UCLA before eventually pursuing his dental doctorate at USC Dental School. He has also attended advanced training in dental implants at Loma Linda Dental School, as well as extensive courses in Invisalign Clear Braces. All in all, he completes 50+ continuing education units every two years to keep his clinical skills as up to date as possible. He is a current member of the Academy of General Dentistry and also works as an assistant clinical professor at Western University of Health Sciences in Dentistry.

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Dr. Compean and his lovely wife of 36 years have four daughters and one son. In his spare time, he is an avid golfer and loves reading, skiing with friends and family at Mammoth, and fly fishing in the Sierras. He is also a seasoned hiker – in fact, he’s hiked to the top of Mt. Whitney in just one day, which is a 22 mile round trip with a 6,000 foot elevation difference each way!

Get to Know Dr. Mary Compean 

Dr. Compean grew up in a very dental household, with a dad who was a dentist and a mom who worked as a dental assistant. After shadowing her father, Dr. Carlos Compean, throughout her life, she realized that she had the same passion for the field and decided to follow in his footsteps! If you’d like to learn more about her, just keep reading below.

Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

While Dr. Compean’s parents certainly inspired her to embark on this career path, she has a true drive for the work that goes into oral healthcare and what it takes to do this job right. She knows that there is a very negative reputation about the dentist’s office and wants to help change as many opinions as possible, providing genuine comfort and satisfaction instead of instilling fear. She treats every new arrival just like a member of her own family.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

After completing her undergraduate degree at Cal Poly Pomona, Dr. Compean achieved her dental doctorate at the Western University College of Dental Medicine. She has also undergone additional training in Invisalign Clear Braces. She is a current member of the following dental organizations:

  • Academy of General Dentistry
  • American Association of Women Dentists

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

When she isn’t busy caring for patients, Dr. Compean loves to travel, hike, cook, go horseback riding, garden, rollerskate, read, and try lots of new things in general. She is definitely passionate about finding new adventures whenever possible and living life to the fullest!


Dr. Allyson Reel

Get to Know Dr. Allyson Reel 

Dr. Reel has been in the dental field for 22 years. She originally hails from North Carolina, and came out to California for dental school. 

Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

At 2 years old, she was at the dentist and loved the fact that the dentist "put a vacuum in my mouth". As she grew, she wanted to address the fear and anxiety that is so common in dental patients. Being a nervous patient herself, Dr. Reel expressed the deepest empathy and caring attitude to help her patients feel at ease and best treat their pain. 

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

After completing her 2 undergraduate degrees at Georgia Southwestern State University, she also went on to get her Masters of Biomedical Sciences at Barry University in Miami. Dr. Reel achieved her dental doctorate at the Western University College of Dental Medicine. She has also undergone additional training in Invisalign Clear Braces. She also is certified in Oral Conscious Sedation. She is a current member of the following dental organizations:

  • Academy of General Dentistry
  • American Association of Women Dentists

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

When she is not looking after her patients, she can be found, flying in a wind tunnel, jumping out of airplanes, hiking, working out, playing with dogs and just enjoying the outdoors!
